Ignoring the fact that he had a toothache here and did take a painkiller for it, Michael was addicted to drugs. He did admit to that fact, and he did go to rehab for it. He had to cancel the last shows of the Dangerous tour due to the drug use. He had a legitimate reason during this deposition to take drugs, but for the most part, he had been abusing anxiety meds and other painkillers just to get through his concerts. The sexual abuse allegations in '93 was one of his triggers to use.
