EE Design Project 2008

Proposed by the Grove City College Water Polo coach four years ago, this system was envisioned to replace team managers filming the matches. Six engineering students with no previous image processing, LabVIEW, or computer automation experience took on this challenging problem.

Three months of planning and four months of hands-on engineering were put into this project. However, another few months will be required to map additional player configurations, improve the user interface, incorporate zooming, and refine single object tracking (for following individual players).

Final project milestone: achieving 29.8 fps while implementing the closed-loop control system recording 30 continuous minutes of a water polo match.

For the 2008 Grove City College Business Plan Competition, the group also proved that the system could work for hockey and soccer.
