*STEREO*. Bobby Vee & The Ventures perform "What Else Is New", from 1963. Rather nice.

  • I've had this album since I was a kid, and I still love it. Heard this song covered by Andy Williams later on, but it wasn't nearly as good.

  • @librarybob1958 Didn't know about Andy Williams's version.

  • Excellent ! A seemingly simple song on the surface, complex in the instrumental backing and in the psychology of the song. Is he really talking to her or is it all just playing in his mind? One of the best Vee/Ventures tracks.

  • @lesgore54 I'd agree with your careful synopsis. A beautiful song, with multi-layered backing. Would make a great instrumental.

  • @lesgore54 I interviewed Bobby's producer, Snuffy Garrett, a few years back and asked him about the arrangements on this album. He told me there were no charts, just head arrangements! Very interesting!

  • @veefriends Thanks for the comment. A legend! I always associate Mr Garrett with the highest quality (stereo)audio recordings and arrangements.

  • Would someone put on Caravan By The Ventures from this album? Thanks!

  • I don't know about all the compliments here. Vee & the Ventures were recording for the same label, otherwise I doubt that The Ventures would have accepted to team with such a corny singer. He had some great success simply because he managed to get hold on some very nice songs! Vee had no special talent and you could go to any night club around the world and hear much better (but obscure and unknown) lead singers.

  • Thanks again for those stars!

  • ahhhhh, great share, angel - angelofbebop!! yes, i do love it!!! five stars, SirBasildeBrush!!
