    Because unlike the rest of us he has an AMAZING kick, gets HUGE propulsion out of that as well, so lowering his hips a bit lets him engage that fully. Different people have different builds and different strengths. What works for most doesn't work for all, and especially, for those freaks who populate the elite levels of sport.

    His freestyle is poetry in motion! And those kicks are really unbelievable . . . . I was heart-broken when he didn't make the Aussie trials for 200 meter in London. Would have loved to see him swim against Phelps and/or Lochte. Michael was 27, Ryan was 28 and Ian was 29 years old and all very hungry to win. Too bad it didn't happen . . .

    Fastest kicks I have ever seen, and if your coach told you to look down, then they need refresher couses. You need buoyancy and streamline to be able to glide freely. notice his long strokes, at least a number of 7kicks per pull he made. DAMN!!! Even in slow motion it seems fast

    that seems so strange though. Every single one of my coaches have told me to look straight down, and that being horizontal is a good thing. I dont see how having his lower body a little lower would capitalize on his kick?

    He slightly tilts the head up to prevent over rotation on the breath and balances his body to take full advantage of his especially powerful kick; by avoiding a completely horizontal position.
