i wish he expanded more on his statement that his slide playing is "heavily limited" i assume he means using a comp but i wish he had elaborated on that a bit more

The effect is also called a voxbox. Walsh is using his mouth to "shape" the sound of each note. You can hear the same thing on Peter Frampton's "Do You Feel?".
