AIA's many wavebands allow us to see regions on the Sun corresponding to a range of temperatures. The first image is a composite made from three of the AIA wavelength bands, corresponding to temperatures from .7 to 2 million degrees (hotter = red, cooler = blue). The second movie shows a prominence eruption made showing 50,000 and 700,00 degrees.

  • very interesting post. Keep it up :)

  • Keep in mind that we are approximately 94.4 MILLION miles from it.

  • One thing's for sure... nothing is cold on the sun. Maybe colder than normal, but not cold. If I can sit in my livingroom on the 7th floor of an 8 storie building in CANADA! And sweat with no shirt on around 6 or 7 o'clock on a summer evening with the window shades semi closed! Nothing is cold on the sun.

  • WOW !!!

  • Amazing video, not only scientifically significant but also beautiful! I featured it along with the others on my website.
