Just how big of a role does nutrition play in medical schools across the United States?

Sadly, a very small one.

Doctors who are knowledgeable about nutrition had no choice bu to seek out that information themselves, often times by completing ANOTHER degree.

  • OMG! 40% of the med schools are producing mediocre doctors. That is why we have an obese society.

  • Actually, Marta, it's only 40% that teach nutrition in some capacity. A full-on SIXTY percent pretty much pay absolutely no attention to it!

  • I agree! Unfortunately though, the dieticians are not trainned in what the nutritionalist is taught. There is a HUGE difference. Dieticians believe that wheat/milk/sugar and random foods are fine. they also do not consider that absorption, utilisation, digestion of foods in most patients unless specifically diagnosed. Soil is poor insome nutrients and diets need to be varied with veg/nuts/ proteins etc and not too many carbs, no refined... yet dieticians have a very different philosophy.
