Is this thickness normal? i've never used this before, and i'm finding this impossible to employ. No matter what I try, I cannot get it to a workable consistency. It took my boyfriend squeezing with all he could, just to get that bit out, with the cap completely removed. Please help!? Otherwise i'm just gonna chuck it and never try the product again. (i bought it at Dick Blicks, where i returned to and their other bottles are the same thickness...)

  • get your money back! It looks like someone left the cap off it for about a month and it totally dried out. Gesso is supposed to look like primer paint. A tad thicker than basic craft paint, but still totally a liquid. Its made to brush on easily like a paint, not wrestle out of the bottle in clumps of gooey/hardened mess.

  • @craftyblog hats what i figured. i tried checking the other bottles there and looked the same. its been a month or so now since i got it, so i'll just pick up a new one. i was trying to get it on a budget. got what i paid for i guess. sigh. i have been told it was thicker and grittier but i figured this couldnt be right. thanks so much for replying. you're the only answer i could get from anywhere lol thank you!

  • @MzHellfyre no problemo. Its thicker than paint, yea... but I dont find it gritty at all. Its really smooth/creamy (sort of like mod podge or heavy bodied paints that come in tubes/tubs like BASICS or Golden/Rheotech).

If youre able to, take the cap off in store and look at the thickness before you buy it. Ive done that with paints before at the art store.

  • @craftyblog i took the cap off when i went back to inquire, and the others were the same. i'm gonna stop back and check em again and if theyre still, gonna bring it to their attention. thanks so much!

  • that looks like some cheap crappy stuff. I'm not surprised that it dried out. It was probably sitting around for far too long.

  • looks like it froze at some point. I had the same thing happen to some acrylic paints that froze

  • Try GOLDEN brand of gesso. They have some of the creamsmoothest gesso Ive ever tried. BASICS is also good
