Old Russian romance "Gori, gori..." - Ekaterina Yurovskaya

This is not the end of my „Jewish cycle"; I just could not help presenting that old Russian romance again, after interpretation of Isa Kremer already here uploaded. This is a recording of the Russian singer of 20s and 30s -- Jekaterina Yurovskaya. Her rendition seems to approach the essence of the message - music and words in much more appropriate way:
"Glow, glow my star over me, as long as you can. Glow, and when I have passed away, still glow friendly - over my grave".

And that piano !

Jurek, I think this song encapsulates so much of what many would consider the essense of the Russian soul. I searched for the word to describe the feelings of this song and for me the word pathos seem best. How often late at night in some quiet place I have heard just such songs bringing forth great emotions. Incidentally, I had never noticed before the notation that your mother was from Yalta, so perhaps this song has special meaning for you.

Dont be so fanatic. I have lived in Soviet Union for 3 years. The main problem was the lack of freedom. Other things were not so bad. There were universities everywhere, arts academies, research centers, sports centers, music schools, free health for everyone. The political system had problems especially due to the huge capitals for military investments, but there were many good things as well.
