This is one of the many places where Android fails.
On the iPhone all input methods are already built in... since version 1.0 of the iPhone in 2007. There are 3 input methods for chinese alone including hand writing recognition as an input method. Japanese, russian, arabic... you name it is built in. And believe it or not the voice recognition function on the iPhone actually recognizes chinese characters! It is also much simpler to turn these on. More intuitive....after all its made by apple.

@thedinkyone Glad you found something that works for you. I wouldn't use the iphone if I got one for free and someone paid me to use it.

The Australian one didn't, and neither did the US version so it is not unnecessary. The new version of android, 2.2, comes with Chinese built in.

So I have been trying to use this app on the t-mobile mytouch slide. I can text anyone on tmobile however if i try to text someone outside tmobile i get an error that says try to resend without the characters. any suggestions?

@viegolock It sounds like the gateway between tmoble and other carriers doesn't support UTF-8. That is a complete guess though. If you can type in emails and everything else ok, it's not the input method that's causing the problem. Good luck

@cbdrs Hi cbdrs, Once you switch the input method to Chinese it stays that way everywhere until you switch it back. You can change the whole phone into Chinese: Settings > Language & Keyboard > Set Locale > 中文 ^^
