For years, people who suffered from headaches and migraines had to rely on pills, natural remedies, and maybe the occasional massage for relief. Well, today, modern science has stepped in with new and cutting edge treatments; the cold laser. Yes, you might think we are venturing into the realm of science fiction, but the modern laser has found many uses in the medical profession. You might also think that headaches and migraines are not a big deal. Well, think again; they are among the most common medical problems people suffer from -- nearly seventy-five percent of Americans suffer from one or the other in any given year. And, the cost? Right around 400 million dollars are spent annual on medications and treatments. And treatment that can ease those pains and costs is worth examining.

When using a cold laser, the treatment is very safe, there is no pain associated with it, and it can be done very fast. Then there are other benefits. When using any sort of massage or other physical treatment, a thermal reaction occurs within the body; thus the treatment can not be done too often or damage will be the result. A similar side effect happens with pills and other medications. Not only are there sometimes detrimental effects from the medicine, but there are long term problems. You can become dependant on the medication, thus abuse can occur, and you can build up a tolerance to whatever you are taking. This then necessitates either increasing the dosage or changing to another medication. Either way, it can be a rollercoaster of pain, side effects, and costs.

In the case of cold laser treatments, there is no thermal reaction. The laser beam stimulates your nerves and body to produce endorphins and boost your serotonin levels. These two chemicals have a dual effect on your body. The endorphins ease your stress levels and help you to calm down; that in and of itself will help with your pain. Next, the more serotonin your body has available, the faster and better it can heal itself. Thus, the laser is merely stimulating your body to do what it does naturally. This means there are no deleterious side effects, and the treatment can be repeated as often as you need it.

The cold laser works much as the ancient Chinese practice of acupuncture. In that, needles are inserted into the body at different points and wiggled -- either with the fingers or an electrical current. Many people have found relief from a host of medical problems with this type of treatment. Yet, there are people who do not care for the idea of needles stuck in them, especially on a regular basis. This is where laser treatments come in. They can achieve the same results without being at all invasive. In fact, most patients report feeling nothing at the time of the treatment!

So, if headaches are troubling you, if migraines are making you see flashing lights, vomiting, and your skull seems about to crack open from the pain; check out cold laser treatments. You'll never need to pick up another aspirin in your life.

  • @muddyooch There are many low level lasers which are true lasers, and they are not hot and not destructive due to the fact that they are pulsed.

  • This is likely not a true laser but this type of weak unit has little deep tissue benefits at all. Better to look into Gallium Arsenide Super Pulsed Laser, a true laser that can benefit many different musculoskeletal conditions

  • @muddyooch There are many types of lasers friend. Gallium Arsenide superpulsed lasers are not hot and are not destructive, as are some of the Helium Neon lasers, and can be used for all sorts of soft tissue needs. Research your subject before making silly comments like this. LED has not been found to be as valuable in treating many musculoskeletal ailments.

  • It's not LASER, it's near-infra red. Laser is hot and destructive. LED is cool and stimulating. You might learn your light wave-length scale....
