Just checked all the motor mounts and they look good. Timing appears to be out (was reading 20 degrees - might be off a tooth on my timing belt). Fresh engine rebuild with a 10 degree BTDC camshaft from 3-tech.

  • Hey rmcelwee, I just changed timing belt on my 96 1.0L. The car has lots of power and runs fine. But I too have engine vibration, I'm going to get a timing light to see where the engines is at. I know it should be around 8 degrees before TDC. Was is the timing off one tooth that caused your engine vibration ? Please help another metronian out, go Geo Metro Forum !!!! Thank you !!!!!

  • @qs711

I checked the teeth and they were ok (not a tooth off). I've sold the car so I can't check anything else out on it.

  • all the geo metro motors shook

  • @veggiepowered

None of my other 3 Metros shook and the motor didn't shake before I rebuilt it.

  • @rmcelwee you said you checked the mounts. and they looked good. did you check to see hte mounting bolts were tightened to spec? could be a misfire. not sure on that. other than vibes how did it drive?

  • @yamahonkawazuki The mounting bolts were fine. The car felt sluggish but that could have been from the extreme gear ratios that I was running (replaced the 4.39 vert tranny with one from an XFI) to get the car up to 50 MPG.

  • My '94 shakes like that but runs smoothly through acceleration, and at speed it's fine too. I removed the left front motor mount and found it very deteriorated. Apparently the mount is not available so I did the urethane repair trick and it worked well for about two years...almost eliminating all vibration. I'd bet that mount is causing your vibration problems too.

  • @rmcelwee Thank you RM for that very quick reply back on my question. I took a look at your LS miata, and she's a beauty. She must be a real neck snapper, I know you'll have a lot of fun with that car. Anyhow thank you again sir, your help is greatly appreciated. Friends Q ^___^

  • at least it looks clean i think my timing is off but cant aford a timing gun right know to check it.
