This looks gorgeous AND makes a confusing idea easy to grasp. Congratulations! For kids, technology is so pervasive and normal that seems criminal that it should ever be absent from their learning experiences.
I also had no idea what the TPACK model was before viewing this. Combining technology, pedagogy and content is essential in today's classrooms. It's true that we are teachers of 21st century learners- the way children learn is different than it was even 10 years ago- so with that, teachers need to change their approaches too. How can we give children the best possible learning experience without the successful integration of technology, pedagogy and content?
@cuttoes I know alot of "older" teachers whos excuse is that they have no idea where to get information about new technologies. They say that they need more professional development sessions on technologies- But I agree by saying that if nothing is happening in terms of professional development organised by the school, they need to take the initiative and explore themselves. We must understand though that this is difficult to get your head around when you've been using the same methods for 30yrs!
If 56% of NEW teachers feel unprepared to integrate technology into their content and pedagogy, imagine how the 'OLD' teachers are doing with the idea... I think we all need to step outside the box and out of our comfort zones, but how do teachers access the skills? We can't rely on mandates, we have to spread the desire to use ICT by using it ourselves and actively sharing/telling our colleagues about the benefits...
I had no idea what the TPACK model was all about but now I do. So important for teachers to embrace technology and encourage students to learn through it. I think a lot of teachers are afraid to include technology in their classrooms but the sooner they embrace it, the better! Sarah H.
