Cyprus Against AIDS

Technical Committee on Health Matters held an event, "Cyprus Against AIDS," on 1st December to commemorate the World AIDS Day. During the pre-event activity on 30th November and 1st December, members of the Technical Committee at the Ledra Street/Lokmaci crossing, jointly distributed pins and leaflets in both Greek and Turkish, to raise awareness in the two communities on HIV/AIDS prevention, modes of transmission, and treatment. The conference on 1st December received the participation of 90 Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot medical doctors. The programme included an introductory presentation from the two team leaders of the Technical Committee and two presentations from Greek Cypriot and Turksih Cypriot doctors on HIV/AIDS in Cyprus. Two keynote speakers from USAID and the World Health Organisation (WHO) presented the current global trends and developments on HIV/AIDS diagnosis and treatment and WHO recommendations on HIV treatment, followed by active discussions. This was the great opportunity for Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot medical doctors to share views and experiences on specific issues of common interest.
