My father took me to this concert way back in 1981. It was my first time to see Johnny Cash LIVE. I was nearly 15 at that time and this was a dream come true. Back in the early 80s there used to be a big Country Music Festival every year around Easter in Rotterdam. This was my first trip there. So many wonderful memories! The Cash-band around that time was called 'The Great 80s 8'(WS.Holland on drums, Bob Wootton,, Marty Stuart and Jerry Hensley on guitar, Jack Hale+Bob Lewin on horns, Earl Ball on piano and Henry Strzelecki on bass (since original Tennesse Two-bassplayer Marshall Grant quit touring back in 1978/1979). The concert was taped for dutch radio at that time and later issued on a bootleg-CD called 'Rockabilly Reunion'. BIG SURPRISE of the evening was ofcourse the guest-appearances by Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins (also on the same Mervin Conn-packagedeal of the show). A few days later the Show in Hamburg, Germany was recorded again, only this time for an official LP-issue called 'The Survivors' (a CBS-album-collaboration for Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins and Jerry Lee Lewis).
The linernotes of that particular album do tell a HISTORIC LIE! Hamburg wasn't the first time! The Concert at Rotterdam (this very gig!) was the originator of the later Hamburg-album called 'The Survivors' . Just that you all get it right. Just before doing San Quentin Johnny Cash was honoured by a Golden Album for 'The Best of Johnny Cash' (a Dutch 70s Cash-collection for CBS). The album 'Rockabilly Blues' had just been released
