Skiing Black Spout, Lochnagar 18th March 2011 with Dave and Scott. Despite many outings on skis down the gully, this is the first time the narrows have been completely covered in snow and was able to ski it without having to downclimb a short section.
Scott, you guys do far more of this than I, you know the ground intimately and had the "feel" of things on the day. None of us does this sort of thing without prep. and Hopefully I didn't come across as some old fud criticising decision making in a risk loaded sport. No fear....no fun! I've watched this a good few times now and it's so "in there" that it's me entering the Spout. I'm always waiting for the scarp to give. Great.

@SprocketmanKW No bother, just wanted to make it clear that we didn't lob ourselves into the gully in these conditions without checking it out. Different matter when it's spring snow :o)

@SprocketmanKW I'd been down into the gully to dig a pit and check the snow out prior to skiing into it (attached to the rope). Other than the cornice, it was powder in the gully, so we deemed it stable, which it was. If it hadn't been acceptable, would have found something else to ski that was.
