Theary Seng's story is one of hope over adversity. As a child, she lived through the brutal Khmer Rouge years, before fleeing to the United States, where she studied to become a lawyer. Now, she is back in Cambodia, promoting human rights. As head of the Center for Social Development, Theary Seng is an outspoken critic of corruption and abuse wherever it exists. Rory Byrne has this report for VOA's Making a Difference series.

  • There's no shame in collecting cow dungs okay ? it's a great source of burning fuel and the Indian in Calcutta splattered cow dungs all over their house for varieties of reasons. It's okay to pick up after the cows.I dont think Theary have problems with cow Pooh, but she doese have a huge problem with the Khmer Rouge. So to all you poop scoopers out there,Miss Seng Theary got nothing against your profession.Carry on with your poop-scoopin,you're providing great services to all the animal friends.

  • amazing!

  • Theary is many things to many people, I feel bad that the happiest days of my life when I married and had children and enjoyed life so much were between the ages of 20-25, the years, 1975 - 1980. After the liberation My government (thatchers government ) supported the Khmer Rouge and said they should have a seat in the new Cambodian government and refused to recognize the new Vietnamese backed government.

Children in UK saved silver paper and sent it in to kids TV programme to exchange for aid

  • Theary, please don't follow Sam Rainsy's foot step. This guy is a sore loser. I see you had done lots of good things already.

  • Keep up the good work, Theary!

  • I just read Theary's book "Daughter of the Killing Fields", and I highly recommend it to make Cambodian history relatable to western audiences.

Theary is a very talented writer and helped me to understand the recent events of Cambodia much better than I am able to understand living in modern Phnom Penh.

  • I think she would make a good Prime Minister for Cambodia.
