The Purina Incredible Dog Challenge, now in its 13th year of competition, showcases exceptional canine athletes of all breeds and sizes vying for national titles in a variety of Olympic style events.
Some of the most talented dogs from around the country descended upon Spa Beach Park in St. Petersburg to participate in the Purina Incredible Dog Challenge on April 17. This premier canine sporting event featured dogs competing in a variety of Olympic style events including dog diving, freestyle flying disc, head-to-head weave poles, Jack Russell hurdle racing and agility.
The action kicked off on Friday, April 16, with the Purina Incredible Biathlon Swim Race. This mass-start dog-race began with a sprint into the ocean, where the canine contestants doggie-paddled their way around buoys, and then swam back to shore to complete an agility course to win the gold.
Local dogs also had the opportunity to qualify to participate in two of the events dog diving and freestyle flying disc. Top qualifiers won the chance to demonstrate their skills in Saturdays (April 17) competition with the chance of qualifying for the National Championship in St. Louis in October.
