Chenier is one of the great innovators in American music. He revolutionized the sound of Zydeco and gave the accordian a sound that had never before been heard anywhere. His genius came with his spontaneity and humor sandwiched around his incredible musicianship.

Please disregard the opening comments about the "Negro workers who picked up the music from the Acadians". The French speaking free people of color, Creoles & African Americans were some of the first families of LA. They helped the Acadians settle into the hot climate & worked alongside them as sharecroppers. Free people of color lived under separate laws in LA for almost 150 years fr 1725-1865 until the "one drop rule". All the progress they made came undone. Jim Crow set them back 90 more yrs
