Worst turbo I've ever seen. This is a GARRETT GT-17 turbocharger off a 2001 SAAB 9-5 obviously there was some SERIOUS smoking.
I have a turbo DIY replacement picture thread at my website: www.theSAABguy.com

  • LOL, my Garrett GT17 is also broken like that. ;)

    Now I have the Mitsubishi TD04. :)

  • as dan2e2 says................ frequent oil changes with the appropriate oil for your vehicle........ I have a 530d and bmw have extended service intervals hence the need for longlife oil. But I always change my oil half way through the interval with the appropriate fully synthetic long life oil with oil filter change..... The key for a long turbo life........ mines done 133k (touching wood) and no probs yet.... fresh clean oil and filter change.. turbos love the stuff!

  • Yeah the GT17 are pretty weak turbos --- however, it's sludging that generally causes this.

Mine is on 140k helping to deliver 230bhp....... regular Fully Syn Oil Changes are key.... if you've recently bought one, get the oil pickup flushed out and fresh oil change... (not at the OP obviously).

  • PFfft I'd still use it for at least 20,000 more miles. :-)

  • Did you ever buy a new GT 1752 for it wher did you get it and how much did you pay?

  • had a td5 disco like that last week..........

  • dude i dont know i see all these turbos for saabs i have a 2000 9-3 with 220000 miles on it original clutch and turbo its all about how u keep care of your car

  • this is what you get when you are giving high rpm on cold engine, after ignition you should wait, for the engine to warm up....

  • you have a broken shaft

  • If youre vehicle is non-aero most likely you have the gt-17 for four cyl
