  • Mark u are on the outside looking in. I suggest you set up a profile on longhaircareforum and blackhairmedia. Go to hair shows and meetandgreets. Observe the sisters who don't have alopecia. Learn what a product junkie is. Find out why black chics are doing MN challenges and taking diatomaceous earth. Is the conscious community aware of the present or the 1960s?

  • @AishaSekhmet Sis, you are still referring to issues related to Alopecia and chemical burns. What is different presently compared to the 1960s in relation to why Afrikan women perm, weave and wig their hair? Other than the two issues you raised (which represents the smallest demographic btw) I think it is safe to say the vast majority do it because they hate the texture and look of their hair. Its this mindset that makes a mother perm a 3 year old in the first place, right?

  • And again this conversation isn't reaching the women who need to hear it and its started by a man. Hair Is important to black people why? How many men in this convo choose women by the way they look? I don't advocate putting lye on ur scalp. Its insane but our people are programmed

  • @AishaSekhmet To be honest, hair is most important to the women covering her hair up. If hair is so unimportant then they wouldn't go through leaps and bounds to cover it up. I agree that women should be at the forefront of this issue but those women haven't stepped up and done that. Instead those women are pandering to and making excuses for chemical processing because peer pressure is a bitch. They don't want to be ostracized, imo.

  • GR8 POINT ABOUT EXPOSING THE NATURAL HAIR DURING A CHICK FIGHT NEVER THOUGHT OF IT LIKE THAT B4.

  • What you were saying about women fighting and aiming to expose the other girls natural hair is so true. Some ppl are absolutely terrified to reveal their natural hair and it's such a shame. Black people's natural hair is hidden to the point where ppl are often suprised when they see it! Imagine it, it's like black peoples natural hair is in hiding and it's a sad sad shame! I prob have too much to say about it so let me just stop right here!!

  • @AishaSekhmet what are you talking about? You made absolutely no sense in your posting. I think you had or have a point, it just wasn't made. As long as your hair is the way the Lord grew it out of you head it is natural. Some light skinned blacks have terribly coarse dry hair that is hard to manage, just as there are some dark skinned sisters with very straight hair. So whether its a fro, a puff, locs, or a fro. If its your natural hair with no additves then you're natural, no qualifying.

  • You do have a point. Please make a list of talking points, take a drink of water and watch the lip smacking (please stop). I wonder if you like African hair? What kind of hair does your woman have? How many brothers have you educated against the European look on Black women? Have you taken the time to ask the young men and women? Doubtful, what can we do to turn it all around? Dont just point out the problems dear brother, offer up a resolution. Otherwise, whats the diff btwn you and them?

  • i have to disagree about perms why wud a woman perm, and put dangerous toxic chemicals in her hair just for variety? sounds too far fetch for me, and maybe they are not fully aware and uneducated or just dont believe the facts

  • I used to specialize in hair replacement. The damage that some of these ladies are doing to their hair is sickening.

  • All women have something about their body that they don't like, no matter what color, race, age, weight, height, etc. Black women are being singled out because black people are nitpicked for WHATEVER we do. Even if sisters walked around "natural", racists would complain that black hair was "limited". ALL WOMEN PULL hair, and some men too in a fight. Men used to pull beards in medieval times.

  • Brother I love your take on this issue .. I am that sister who had it straight, twists, afro, etc..lol.. I honestly love variety like we did in ancient Kush where the queens had wigs to braids or locs. I like how u keep it open for people to really think and not feel attacked and not give ppl room 2 b defensive but u give ppl room for contemplation and learning. Mature. Keep it up. The other story will be the fact that perms are chemicals that can be harmful that was what made me stop 2 yrs ago.

  • Y'all only understand the conscious community stuff tell me why black women in the natural hair community are putting monistat in their hair. Why are they using horse products. Why do they go to church with their afros and locs. All men know is what they see on the outside. U don't understand that's y the conscious community can't wake up black women. The key to our redemption is sleep and y'all push em away. Betty shabazz had straight hair.
