Big Wave Dave Bull Rider Nosara, Costa Rica

We met Big Wave Dave on the beach at Nosara. To our surprise this Cornell grad has made chasing excitement his passion. Dave actually came to Costa Rica to stay on his game of barefoot water skiing at a lake up in the mountains. This bullriding thing was his personal challenge. This footage taken at the Nosara Fiesta was something from another world for us. The Tico fiesta happens there only once a year in January and is a must event for these beautiful people. Among friends there were Tom & Jackie, Ken, Big Wave, Karen, Nano and his girl friend all seen at the end of this video celebrating thankfully that Dave was not hurt. The shear terror of getting close to one of these bulls cannot be captured on film.

I missed getting on film a rider just ahead of Dave who came out of the gate and was immediately knocked out as the bull bucked and his left horn knocked his teeth out! The rider fell, but his left spur was hooked on the bull rope below the belly of the bull. The rider was then pinwheeled as the bull spun circles and both legs were broken. Finally he came free and they rushed him uncontious away in the ambulance. We thought he was dead but heard the next day he had survived.
