  • Thanks Tom. The sash will get to about 200 degrees however, harder putties will require more time in the box to soften. You have about 15 minutes once out of the steamer regardless of time in box. After that putty will harden to the point you want to put back in steam box. Another 20 minutes or so will usually do it.

  • Great technique. I've done a lot of steam bending but never thought of this application. How much open time do you have on the glazing and paint before you might have to resteam the sash? Have you developed any numbers on the open time... such as 30 minutes in the steam gives you X minutes of open time, but 45 minutes gives you Y, etc?

  • This is absolutely incredible. After years of trying a heat gun, a router, scrapers, and the good Lord knows what else, I am simply amazed. Thanks so much for posting this!!

  • God Bless You for demonstrating the steaming technique! I've been heat gunning and sanding my way through the windows of my 1920 house. I bought a steamer today and my hubby is building me a steam cabinet this weekend. Thank you, thank you, thank you for sharing your wisdom!!!
