  • I liked the Hangover because:

    1. Not showing you the party makes you wonder what happened, and it makes seeing the aftermath all the more hilarious.

    2. Zack Galifanakis does not curse a single time in the movie which, if you have seen his stand-up is very very unlike him.

Overall this was a great movie. My face actually hurt from laughing so much. One of the best comedies I've seen--something the ticket sales and ratings seem to agree with me on.

  • Well, from what I've seen through history, most people are stupid so I wouldn't call ticket sales a respectable means to qualify greatness (Transformers 2). Going into it, I expected the concept to have more legs. What I found instead was conflicts in characters. They makes worse choices when sober = bad screenwriting.

I do like Zach. Have you seen him in Visioneers?

  • Cont'd

Also, I don't see how they made worse choices sober. The choices they made wasted were about as bad as it gets. Stealing a police car, marrying a hooker, kidnapping an asian man, pulling out your own tooth etc.. all sound like pretty bad ideas.

You make the point that they were very idiotic in their tiger transportation, but they probably didn't think the tiger would wake up so quickly from 6 roofies. I thought their drunk choices were much worse than their sober ones.

  • Of course their intoxicated choices should be bad, but these are adults with (in most cases) respectable backgrounds. Beyond the tiger behavior, other evidence of a screenplay running out of gas include a naked mobster who had no business being in that trunk and the cliche stripper with a heart of gold.

  • Cont'd

By the end, I realized why this movie wasn't made before: seeing the chaos chronologically is more entertaining than recovering from it. It's no one's direct fault, but if you look at the director's resume, you'll see he relies on a comfortable formula. This is essentially Old School 2.

Movies I have high hopes for, receive closer scrutiny from me. At the halfway point, I just wanted it to end; not the feeling I desired at the start. I'm now hoping Funny People doesn't disappoint.

  • the movie would have been better without the pictures at the end I think

  • Perhaps. That way it would retain some mystery instead of creating plot holes.

  • Well after deciding to watch this movie instead of Year One (Due to its low ratings, and bad comments)

I disagree, i thought The Hangover was great.

One of the best times i had in the theater in a while..

  • this film was so lame, so flat. Might be funny if you're a kid, but these jokes re so simple and one-dimensional I couldn't even laugh at them.

  • But, you know what? If we did see the party then everyone will be bitching about did Mike Tyson get his tiger back? Did he make it to the wedding on time? Why was he red? What happened to the car?

  • @DtB325 I agree with you. These people treat the Hangover like it is a drama. It's a comedy. What were they expecting going into it?

  • Showing the aftermath is great. You know why? How many times have they showed the actual party and it goes awry and never see what happens after not knowing if what they did had any negative effect.

Like in Bachelor Party. Did they ever have to pay for that room they destroyed? Did Milt and the John ever find their hookers? Did they beat the guy up for having them out longer the 45 minutes? Did they have a criminal record after getting arrested?

  • I want to f*cking rape anyone who says that the movie was not funny. What a bunch of noobs. That was on of the best movies of all time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @fictitiousarts Oh i completely agree. if someone has to explain to me why a movie is funny then something ain't right. But that doesn't necessarily mean something "ain't right" with the movie. If people have to explain jokes to you, it doesn't mean the jokes are flawed. You just don't get them.

  • if someone has to explain to me why a movie is funny then something ain't right. i sat through this in the theatre and the only laughter i heard sounded like a desperate cry for amusement. it's cruel humor. instead of laughing at the situation a character is in, the audience is asked to laugh at how stupid people can be. it's like picking on retarded kids or something. or being the retarded kid. certainly that is what passes for comedy these days.

  • Great movie. The photos are great. That's why it is rated 'R'. The point of the movie is finding the friend, not what happened at the party. If they don't remember, we like the characters, piece it together. I mean, really, the whole finding the groom the day before the wedding is genius, the bachelor party part is getting a little old. If you want to see a bachelor party, go see Tom Hanks 'Bachelor Party'.
