  • The castle was my old grammer school, love the old pictures, so much of Merthyr, especially Dowlais, where I was born was totally destroyed in the so called redevelopment, the museum at Cyfarthfa Castle is worth a visit as is the cemetary at Aberfan, I remember so vividly the tipslide, so sad.

  • What a poorer place Wales would be if Max Boyce had never been born. He is for the ages.

  • I'm from Merthyr lovely place cracking song/poem

  • I'm from Merthyr

  • Does anyone have the lyrics to this by any chance?

  • Hmm. My Grandmother lived in Heolgerrig...............thanks for posting this........

  • Oh the things I did in those hills ^_^ Happy happy times.

Will have to return there one day.

  • A real Welsh Bard. Bravo Bravo

  • Well done Max. This is brilliant for Merthyr Tydfil. What a place is Merthyr, it's the best place on earth and the people from there are just as good. It was once the capital city of the world with our coal mining and steel industry. We shipped the coal to Cardiff, Barry and Swansea and put them on the map. Cardiff was the biggest port in the world exporting 52 million tons of coal per annum. Merthyr is a place where people should be proud of coming from.

  • i would just like to say that merthyr tydfil is the greatest little town in the world. i wish people would come to merthyr and see what fantastic country side and history this town has to offer.... it was the iron, steel and coal capital of the world at one time. how it has never achieved world heritage site status is beyond me.
