The opiate of big business since Roman days and equally deadly: cheap labor.

This interview proved the education myth was just a Red Herring. How did Americans, initially anyway, become preeminent in software development?

Sona Shah was the greatest speaker of this movement and spoke with a depth that no one theretofore seemed willing or able to do!

Thoroughly trouncing the "poor American education system" and or 'shortage' was the cause MYTH.

Proving, as always, it's the money and the ability to take advantage of these non-immigrant visa workers that makes them more attractive that Americans or residents.

Who would have believed a Democrat President, Clinton, would take the lead in the destruction of the math and computer science fields in America? (To accelerate the decline and fall of the American and world economies.)

President Clinton signed that first bill, all but eliminating the cap on the number of "temporary H1B visas". Clinton literally signed the death knell for programmers and engineers alike in America.

This in turn sent wise students running away from the math and sciences the powers claim we need so badly.

McCain too was there walking to the same old "bomb bomb bomb" theme but this time McCain took aim at the jobs of his American constituents. Wait! He had help from his best buddy neocons Feinstein, Pelosi and Ted Kennedy designing loopholes big enough to drive hundreds of thousands of the best American jobs offshore.

A great job they've done on our economy!

HP to Workers: "Americans have no God given right to these jobs anymore."

Apologies for the added loop, but my system crashed and the footage was lost or I would upload the original.

  • This woman's parents immigrated to US couple of decades ago to work. Now she is saying that no more immigrants should be allowed to work in US.

Thats so hypocritic. Please note that everybody is an immigrant in this country.

  • Incorrect.

    She's speaking of H1B "N.I.V.s"

Non-Immigrant Visas in a country with >15% unemployed engineers.

In fact it's a lot more than software/hardware engineers; it's displacing workers with 'slave' labor from across the board creating havoc in the economy.

Most other countries look at the long term viability of their own economic inputs: the income of their workers.

  • hey Ms sona shah your dad was an immigrant who took one poor american's job couple of decades before... so talk to your dad first then better go and get some skills first not just your degree...you need to get some programming skills to become a programmer. lol

  • Based on her ability to speak, I'm sure she was a good programmer; with that intelligence level there can be little doubt.

  • The anger is quite genuine. It is hard to retain a job or a career beyond 10 years. The situation is grim for everybody because corporate life cycle has shrunk whereas lifespan has increased. This means that a college graduate should be prepared to be a taxi driver once his or her corporate life cycle is over. Outsourcing, off shoring, & being replaced by cheaper & younger aliens have added to this woe. Only poverty & declining revenues collected by the Govt. will force it to take action.

  • The U.S. is not legally required to issue or extend a single H-1B visa. The USCIS states that H-1B visas are a 3 year visa (total stay limited to 6 years) for temporary, nonimmigrant workers. These workers are to fill specialty positions when this talent cannot be secured from the local labor pool. Employers are not required to advertise the positions and are given a legal means to discriminate against U.S. workers. Right now, we should not issue and not renew another H-1B visa.

  • Exactly, and like you said, "College educated be prepared to drive a taxi" which begs the question, "Why would anyone go to college?" Unless something turns around education is becoming a bad investment in this country, this, sadly, will kill American Universities.

  • Correction, Sona's family were legal immigrants and the corps have wisely taken this voice out of the ranks of unemployed engineers and programmers.

  • Yes one executive 6 years ago said that there is no long term outsourcing model that works. He also added that this country will become a very dangerous place to live and that he will move his family overseas before the economy finally collapses. He admitted that it is shortsided and will collapse this country financially.

  • Retraining? Educated? I have a professional degree in Architecture and this has hit my profession! Retrain to what? Somethign less intellectual and techinical? Those jobs are overseas also.

  • And it is these corporation's short-sightedness that is destroying us. When Americans cannot buy anymore because all the jobs are in China, who will buy their crap?

Dont expect the Chinese to become the consumers, the value of the yaun is bad, and chinese workers do not get paid anything (well, very little).

These greedy corporations are a massive part of why our economy is screwed up today. That and FTAs, lending practices, and really bad deregulations.
