Jerusalem's secret land deals

For years the Greek Orthodox Church has been criticised for leasing its land in Jerusalem and the West Bank to the state of Israel.

Now, Al Jazeera has been shown documents revealing the full extent of secret land deals, made by the former Patriarch with a powerful Israeli settler organisation.

The new patriarch says he is fighting to stop church property becoming Jewish settlements.

Al Jazeera's Sherine Tadros reports.

@rencrow When was the last time you've looked at the globe? Israel is but a tiny spec on the world's map. We will never be a "menace to the world". However, we might help the human race forge a single government and then go on to claim the stars one day. This is what "Tikkun Olam" really means. It means bringing the world to be whole once again, under the kingdom of one God. And if you knew a little about Judaism, you would also know "Elohim"=God in Hebrew, is a single plural entity.

@nclusiau Every Jew that comes to Israel makes us stronger. I would also like to see only Jews here. We would get along just fine and build twice as fast. As to the American arms subsidies - well.. we could sell arms to India, Sri Lanka and South Korea for more then 3b$ a year and then we would get to keep the change.

@willwak there is a contract signed between the greek church and israel on the land on which the parliment is built,the contract says that the land is rented to israel

for 50 years,when that period ends the land and any real estate on it goes back

to the greek church.whats gonna happen is that the greek church will rent it again for another period to israel.
