What do Kit Kat bars, Dove Soap, and Wrigley's gum have in common? Palm oil. This ubiquitous substance has provided an enormous cash crop for its two primary producers, Malaysia and Indonesia, but at the increasing cost of both Indonesia's rainforests and Malasyia's air, because when slash and burn techniques are used in Indonesia, all that smoke will go where the wind blows it - straight to Kuala Lumpur.
