@PoisontheHoney wow, that was 2 yrs ago...however the gold, art & jewels do not rake in the money needed to feed the poor. the pittance people may give to see the art is nothing. most of the money that helps the poor is reaped from the peter's pence yearly fund.

again, & to your utter ignorance, if the art in the vatican was sold & put into an endowment, READ ENDOWMENT, the interest would be more than enough to feed the poor...much more than it now does.

@wntoply6 im sorry but the "gesture" would not be more effective. a complete sale of the vatican could feed the poor for how long? a year? lets say 10 years (impossible), even then, the donation will fade away like all the other great donations of the past. money never lasts.

but the catholic church will continue to survive, and gold or not, will continue to help the poor for generations. would you trade a vehicle of social good for a one time fee? if you would, perhaps you are the stupid one.

It also does not mention a single date to do with the 25th of decmber as his birthdate, this date was adopted by catholics so that pagons were able to convert to catholicism and still have their festival.
