You sure are a brave one. Ever since my dad, brother, and I were caught in the middle of mating season fishing, i've been scared to go into fresh water rivers. There were water snakes here, cottonmouths there, they were EVERYWHERE! I only came 3 inches from two cotton mouths on a stump. I even swam across the Pearl River in Mississippi, swam back to the sandbar, and a gator appeared from where I just swam to.

I heard water snakes were ill-tempered and notorious biters. Non-poisonous of course, but they bite. So I guess not necessarily.
