No offense to Youtube, but the story missing from this video is Mr. Buddy Guy. With all due respect, Youtube tagged this under Cyndi Lauper (not taking away from her performance, she did an excellent job!).

When I found the video on Youtube's Grammy site, it didn't even mention Buddy's name in the tags, which I thought was a borderline crime.

I understand the Pop commercialized name recognition dynamic, but Buddy Guy is a Rock And Roll Hall of Fame inductee and 6 time Grammy award winner (which includes his Grammy for Living Proof that he won the evening of this performance).

In my humble opinion, this should have been Buddy's #7 (Skin Deep should have been #6).

Too bad the person responsible for the lighting didn't understand who was being left in the dark for the majority of the performance!

Either way, "tip of the hat" to the Grammy Awards for giving the Blues a stage and for Youtube for telecasting the event!!

Also- Congratulations to Mavis Staples who won her first Grammy award in the category for Best Americana Album for 'You Are Not Alone'.

The song they performed is Wang Dang Doodle (Willie Dixon) which was made popular by the late Koko Taylor in 1966 (reaching #4 on the Billboard R&B charts).

  • What is the name of this song? Hilarious.

  • @fdliyp Wang Dang Doodle (Willie Dixon) which was made popular by the late Koko Taylor in 1966 (reaching #4 on the Billboard R&B charts).

  • I don't get it. I like KWS and the Divettes but why is Buddy in the shadows?

  • I question that move by the production crew of the Grammys as well. I guess that's just another unfortunate representation of the reality of the music industry. Unless you're talking about musicians like Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, Guitar Slim...there's not many musicians that have lived that Buddy should be standing in the shadows of (literally and figuratively). At the very least, he got his #6 Grammy that afternoon.

  • I just saw Cyndi Lauper on "The Talk" just now and she said she was thrilled to perform with Buddy Guy at the Grammys.

  • @sherri419. Who in 1985 would have guessed Cyndi Lauper, of Girls Just Want To Have Fun-fame, would be singing a Willie Dixon song at the Grammys? I wouldn't have expected it at all. I completely sold her short. She's exceptionally talented! She would have made Koko proud!

  • Good performance, but Buddy Guy definitely should've been in the forefront. If I'm not mistaken, he was on the actual recording that Koko Taylor did.

  • Who are the other female singers, aside from Lauper? Staples doesn't show until ~ 3:30 I hope that isn't Bonnie Raitt w/ the black hair.

  • They also forgot Kenny Wayne Sheppard

  • Buddy guy being the ORIGINAL GUITARIST on this classic, should not be in the shadows :(

  • Cyndi Lauper is a legend...great, blessed!!!

  • How KWS is not in the shadows of Buddy i will never understand and he sure needs to learn a thing or two about showing respect to the legend standing next to him and not try to out play him. Absolutely horrible solo.

  • @Bluesman9830 he isnt but if i wanted to hear SRV i would just listen SRV

  • Not taking anything away from the great Buddy Guy but Kenny Wayne Shepherd ain't no slouch either.

  • @754southwabash Thank you man! I love this song and their performance more.
