Catholic Answers Senior Apologist Jimmy Akin explains the disadvantages of using natural analogies to explain the Holy Spirit to children.

Jimmy was born in Texas and raised in Arkansas. He grew up nominally Protestant but at age 20 experienced a profound conversion to Christ. Planning on becoming a Protestant pastor or seminary professor, he started an intensive study of the Bible, but the more he immersed himself in Scripture the more he found to support the Catholic faith. Eventually, he was compelled in conscience to enter the Catholic Church, which he did in 1992.

Catholic Answers is an apostolate dedicated to serving Christ by bringing the fullness of Catholic truth to the world. We help good Catholics become better Catholics, bring former Catholics "home," and lead non-Catholics into the fullness of the faith.

  • Jesus said, "You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you." This is the same Greek word used when the angel said to Mary, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you." The same phrase used to describe the conception of Jesus in Mary is the same phase used to describe the power we receive when the Holy Spirit comes upon us.

  • Akin is probably the most brilliant man in Christian & Catholic apologetics. He's a walking library.

  • Seriously... why would ANYBODY dislike this?????????

  • @coldforgedcowboy - agreed! i think a show on the "personhood" of the Holy Spirit (or the Trinity) is a great idea. It is after all the central doctrine of Christianity or at least one of them, so we should each be growing in our understanding of it all the time if possible.

Sometimes when kids (or anybody) asks us a question we can't quite formulate an answer to, it creates an opportunity to do some research ourselves b/c it reveals an area where our own knowledge is lacking.

  • Exellent a Youtube channel! Speaking of the Holy Spirit is their any chance you really great and magnanimous people at Catholic Answers could do a show on what the Church means by "Personhood" with respect to the Holy Spirit. Thanks, because every time I try to explain this concept to Muslims they look at me like I have a square head.

  • Will there any chance for full show in the future?

  • I'm with you on this one, Jimmy. Thanks for doing these!
