The car has been doing this ever since I cleaned out the IAC. It has a new coil pack and the spark plugs and wires were replaced ~2 years ago. I'm not worried about the squeal - the bearings in the idler pulley are shot.

  • I think I have the rough idle narrowed down to a leaky intake manifold gasket. I'm surprised the CEL has never come on for a misfire. It starts better but stumbles noticeably at idle.

  • bearing noise waterpump alternator or such

  • @steve89z The squeal is the bearings in the idler pulley.

  • I hear you with the bearing thing, it's a common thing with the Taurus especially the older ones. I hear a lot of second generations like this and the idler bearing in my '95 has been doing the same thing for years. Good luck!

  • m sure it doesnt start up like that anymore. My taurus did the same thing when I cleaned out the IACV, I think that its leftover fluid that hasnt gotten blown out yet. My car doesnt do that anymore. Though it does have other problems, that is not one of them. ha

  • Does it still do that? I noticed that when I cleaned out my IACV that it did this the first couple of start ups. Now 3 days after cleaning it it still takes 2 full keyturns to start my car, compared to it only needing 1 about a year ago.

  • Hey man I just today replaced the fuel filter on my 05 with the Vulcan engine after having the same crappy cold start problem. So far so good, cost me $11.50 at autozone, real easy to replace except the clips are a little tricky. Try it out. Good luck!

  • You really should consider changing out your camshaft synchronizer and it's postion sensor. Your at the mileage where it needs it...failure to replace may cause the engine to seize up...that synchronizer drives the oil pump.

  • Sounds like something is wrong with IAC...if thats when it started I would track back to that point. Do you have any engnie lights on? It sounds like its having trouble with the mixture.
