Not surprised even after 1000 years the Malacca strait is one of the busiest sea trade routes.The Cholas atacked the Srivijaya Empire 1000 yrs ago as it was such an important trade route connecting India and China-one of the main reason for conquering the Srivijaya empire by the Chola Empire was that the Empire(Srivijaya) was either supporting or not having controlled piracy on Malacca strait.
