i took out the sim card from the new phone and put my old iphones sim card -2001 error and it worked great it restored it

Tried with my "non-powered" usb hoob, and worked, so maby you don't need a powered? weird.

No problems mate, however if you have 10.5.7+ you should be able to get into DFU mode fine without a USB hub now, as they have fixed this issue
