It should be also mentioned that Francis, who loved life and his friends, took part in a war and came home sick of life and of human hatred - so his values were shaken ...and then he discovered Jesus as his true master because Jesus did not preach fighting but love showing utmost love when he forgave his enemies after being tortured and nailed at the cross...and Francis studied the new testament and followed his "officer" Jesus in action "give all you have to the poor and then follow me"....

I love St. Francis...he is truly an example for us all to follow. I love his life of Simplicity and true Christian practice.
