Today's smoke of Pork BBQ spare ribs is fueled by Kroger Brand lump hardwood charcoal, which burns fast and drops temp quick towards the end of its lifecycle. Smoke flavoring is provided by Western brand apple BBQ smoking chips.

  • Yeah I do like the Cowboy brand too, thepoweljr. However, in a pinch the Kroger is true lump, just like the other brand. It burns similarly.

The WSM is a much nicer smoker, yeah, but I still like my extremely inexpensive ECB, esp living in an apartment. If somebody steals it, it won't be quite so bad...

  • Never buy the store brand charcoal. I learn that when I first started to grill alot of my food. It just doesnt hold up like independent brand charcoal, like Cowboy brand or the stuff you buy from the hardware stores. Also, may I recommend the WSM smoker over your brinkmann smoker.
