Science is composed of a number of branches. All modern biology is based on our knowledge of evolution, and the sole purpose of the theory of evolution is to describe speciation, or why we see myriad species on the planet (btw, like many words, "theory" has multiple meanings. When used in science, a theory describes how a set of facts fit together). Physics describes how something comes from nothing, cosmology describes how the Universe formed, abiogenesis is the science of how life began, etc.
evolution does not explain how something came from nothing (how it all began). I think Atheists must have more faith than Creationists, because how could nothing come from nothing?
... or answering a question. Evolution is simple to understand, and it's taught at school. When talking about genetics, you talk about mutations, then selection. Let's imagine a christian or a protestant. Intimately convinced that god exists. Does he believe sincerely god is a magician that makes animals appear from nothing ? Most of the believers I've met usually conceal religion and science - because Santa didn't bring animals by our chimney...
It's been a long time I haven't seen France more than 4 days in a row... :) Anyway, I wondered, rather than a question of religion or belief, if some people sincerely believed in creationism. I mean, usually religion is a way to answer a lot of questions - ok. Sometimes the fear of a big nonsense or a lack of direction may push people to desire a supreme being - ok. Etc, many reasons. But creationism is so gross, it's not even a question of spirituality...
it evolved because actually this movements should ventilate the mussel's eggs. it was a side effekt, that fish got attracted by this moves and the offspring of the mussle whose brood-arms were best adapted (by mutation) survived. this perfect mimicry took a long time to evolve and it's an fascinating example of natural selection =)
