A short introductory theremin lesson in mechanical stability, breath control, and pitch preview, also known as "pitch fishing". Playing errors included to demonstrate how difficult it is to play the theremin well.

To get a closer look at the aereal finger technique, right click on the video, select "zoom in" set to desired zoom, and drag the image to where you can see the hand.

Intsructed by Thomas Grillo on Moog Etherwave Pro theremin.

This is not a substitute for professional how to play videos, books, or in-person lessons with a theremin instructor.

This video would not have been possible without the invaluable professional training videos, books, and workshops produced by Peter Pringle, Carolina Eyck, Pamelia Kurstin, and Lydia Kavina. All of their methods have been, and are still being studied by me.

  • Question: Do Thereminists find all the Theremin "Emulators" and "Apps" available to be a bad thing, or is it generally seen as a way of increasing interests in the real thing?

  • @trumbachd1 I've never heard a thereminist complaining about all the theremin related apps. However, there's nothing quite like playing the real thing. I think it certainly generates more awareness of reall theremins amung the app community though. :)

  • I really really enjoy your video.

  • @JackerisPotteria Thank you. ;)

  • @rocketguy2 It's possible to do that to some extent, but you can also use the EQ to alter the tone as well.

Yes, it's possible to rotate the theremin to play it the other way round. :)
