Here are some students doing semi-improvisational fighting techniques after just 4 months of training in my Universal Martial Training™ system (I also make an appearance or two, but the floor is mostly theirs) The system is chiefly a synthesis of Xingyi, Bagua and Taiji fighting techniques and movement principles, but there are some Silat and Escrima influences in there too. I've found that moving away from traditional linked form sequences towards purely hands-on technique training with improvisations and variations has helped the students come on in leaps and bounds. I think they are not only learning how to fight with these styles much faster but also much better. I suppose that's specificity for you - we train combat literal movements in range and on target, because in a crisis you'll fight however you have trained to fight. We make use of body armour so students don't feel inhibited when knocking stuff in.

Thanks to Luke, Matt, Dan and Jim - good stuff guys :)

  • Joanna Zorya teaches in York, right? I live in Croydon and think this looks interesting but york is way too far :/

  • @Obsidian1392

Sorry - even further away at the mo - currently residing in Scarborough - but I do run 8 hour seminars every other Saturday as well as teaching Tuesday evenings and then Wed and Fri afternoons and evenings. Basically the studio is set up full time now and I can be fairly flexible about times.

  • Actually this is very good for 4 months.

  • Thank you - I think so too :)

  • Suit yourself. I thought it was quite good for 4 months. The students cringe at it now. Also, they weren't as fluid as they could be cos they were nervous at being on camera for the first time showcasing what they'd learned.

  • i liked the song ... lol

  • It looks more like military unarmed combat than tai chi.Very good for four months and they seem to be generating a fair amount of power for beginners. But who cares what it is as long as it works.

  • Look more like 2 months, so stiff and stilted. Seriously who said you could teach? You always site the British TCCU or whatever but they are a union not a teaching institution, and a very weak one at that. I think you need another good decade of work under a good teacher before you being to teach.
