In July 2011, I took my trusty Suzuki SV 650 S on a motorcycle trip around northern Europe for four weeks.

The route:
The ferry from Germany (Travemünde) brought me to Helsinki, where I headed east towards the russian border - to St. Petersburg. After sightseeing for a day, I headed north on the Magistrale 18 (Кола) through Petrozavodsk (Петрозаво́дск), Medvezhyegorsk (Медвежьего́рск) and Monchegorsk (Мончего́рск) and arrived in Murmansk (Му́рманск) a few days later.
Next on the plan was riding to Norway (Kirkenes) and the Nordkapp. Through a bit of Lapland and Sweden, the road lead me to the Lofoten islands and to southern Norway along the coast.

  • awsome! did you have to change tiers any time?

  • @MsBot100 Thanks man! The trip was done on one set of tyres, but were definitely worn out pretty good afterwards. I run Michelins Pilot Road 3, exceptional sport-touring tyres.

  • Just wondering, how many gigabytes of memory did you take with you for the GoPro? And how did you charge it?

  • @eijkkevin I copied the clips on a netbook when I was in restaurants, it was a total of 6.5 hours and 35GB. The Gopro was charged while riding using an aftermarket 12V outlet with USB adapter.

  • That was fantastic and totally inspiring. I'm looking forward to an Epic Adventurous trip in 2012, and you have truly inspired me. How long did it take? How many miles/Km? How far did you go each day? What were the highlights? If you only had 1 week for a motorcycle adventure in that region where would you go? I'm from the US and ride a KLR 650 but plan to meet a friend in Suomi and to get a bike there for the ride. Thanks for your feedback! AWESOME FOOTAGE!

  • @markbullard That depends on what you really want to experience. On the dual-sport I'd probably do some gravel and offroad tracks. There's a lot of cool tracks in Finland.

The trip was 4 weeks long and the daily mileage was around 300-350km. No problem on these roads. But it's difficult to say what the highlight was. Though I really liked Russia - beautiful landscapes, meeting nice people and well, it's always cool to be somewhere completely different than your home country.

  • Great video!

  • @AlpineGuerrilla oh okay so you took a netbook. I'd like to buy a GoPro as well but couldnt think of any handy way to save the clips. Unfortanetly I cannot take a netbook with me seeing that my bike (also an SV650S, K3) is totally loaded with stuff like a tent, cooking supplies etc. etc.. Guess I still take too much stuff with me, haha. Props for your vids man, very inspiring. Makes me wanna go out and ride!
