O.C. Smith may have recorded it first, but Elvis definately improved on it.

He had so many amazing songs that people haven't heard. I have b/c I have been an Elvis fan since I was 5. My fav's are the not so popular ones. His best years were from the 1968 special on. He recorded the best songs at the time no matter who sang it. Once he sang it, it became his. Larry Gatlin would say the same about "Bitter They Are, Harder They Fall". Talk about emotion! And "Bridge Over Troubled Water".....it's an Elvis song. Rest in peace, my King!

Listening to this sad song, makes me want to be dead. Why?
Maybe because if I were, I woudlnt have to deal with life anymore, and I woudnt have to live the hard life we go through every day. But I think it's haveing and end and closure when there nothing else to look forward to. Man, what a deal.

OMG wasnt he in a way singing this song almost for himself, beautiful and very sad at the same time, thank you Jackie
Written by Bobby George. Elvis recorded is January 13, 1969 at American Sound Studios; it was the first song he recorded there. It is available on From Elvis in Memphis, From Nashville to Memphis: The Essential 60s Masters, Suspicious Minds (1999), and The Memphis Record, which is where this version is from.
