Fitz stole some of the best scenes in the ww...top character...& superb actor, miss the show.

@boyinthedrain I never actually thought about that, but you're right. Its like first hes asking a friend or colleague then hes thanking the Admiral for quickly indentifying a problem that isnt a problem.

@malcolmpierce7 your translation was wrong in my opinion, I think Fitz was honest and he dose not give a flying fuck as long as you treat him (charlie) with respect. The reason why he dose not care is he has really issues to deal with and as long as they are treating charlie with respect there is no issue here except for political optics which Fitz has no time form. You obviously have not watched that much of this show because Fitz takes on and wins a few academic battles, just impotent ones.

@malcolmpierce7 I don't think it bothers him at all. I took his comment to mean "I, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, have more important things to worry about than the president's image."
One of the things I liked about this character was that he was a professional military officer who behaved like a professional military officer, which is to say he was basically apolitical. All he cared about was keeping the country safe.

"I've got some real, honest to god battles to fight Leo. I don't have time for the cosmetic ones."
Translation: Yes it does bother me a little, but if I don't win my battles then that battle becomes academic.

I love how he calls him "Fitz" at the beginning and "Admiral" at the end. As if to say "I'm sorry I burdened you with something trivial when you have real issues"

@bigrob981 Eh, how's that?

Fitz rocks!

I don't have a tv now but I did get to see quite a few of these and this is the conversation I remember as the best. The way this man just lays it on the line is wonderful. No worrying about what he shouldn't or should say. Exceptional actors. If only we felt we could get straight answers from our politicians like this, I'd feel safer and could respect our leadership more. I want to but it's just not there. I try to be a good citizen but am never sure that the person I researched is real.

Leo McGarry was played so well, honet to god I've never been so sure a character was the real thing!
