Salome Sandoval performs at The Cathedral Church of St. Paul's; September 22, 2010. No me mueve mi Dios, by Domenico Mazzocchi (1592-1665) Sonetto Amar a Dios por Dios for soprano and continuo from Musiche sacre e morali: sonetti e arie di più parti a voce sola. Rome, 1640
Translations: It is not the promise of heaven, my Lord, what moves me to love you, nor the fear of hell that moves me to cease my offenses. It is you who moves me, Lord, and the sight of you nailed to that cross, mocked and derided, the sight of your wounded body moves me, your affronts and your death move me. You move me, my God, in such a way that if there were no heaven, I would love you and if there were no hell, I would fear you. Do not give me anything for my love, because if I wouldn't have what I hope, my love would still be the same.
