Wildlife Rehabilitation has become a fast growing profession in America. If you are interested in becoming a wildlife rehabilitator, this is for you! This movie explains what wildlife rehabilitation is all about, what animals are involved, what you need to obtain your state and/or federal wildlife rehabilitation permits and licenses and much more.

My name is Birgit Sommer. I am a wildlife rehabilitator licensed by the State of Texas and director of the Rainbow Wildlife Rescue, INC, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. For more information about orphaned and injured wildlife, please go to www.rainbowwildlife.com . Free Music by www.DanoSongs.com. Thanks!!!

  • What is the salary for a wildlife rehabber?

I really want to be one but I'm scared because of all the student loans I will have to pay back, I'm scared I won't be able to support myself if the salary is very small.

This is a job I can wake up in the morning and be happy about but I'm just scared about the financial part.

  • @kerrsteena Salary? You need to watch the entire movie, I mean all 3 parts of it. There is no salary. You have to pay to do it. Unless you have such a good business sense and can make a nonprofit work to your advantage. I can't. Donations are so hard to get by, I actually have to quit for 2012 because I can't pay for it anymore :(.

  • @MissDolittle Unfortunately I didn't have time earlier (just got back home) to look at the other parts. I thought this was a job? Unless I completely misunderstood her, my friend was talking about her dad being a wildlife rehabber and getting paid for it but not a lot. We were talking about it because I'm going to the same college as he did and I'm majoring in zoology and he also took zoology and became a rehabber.

Oh gosh I probably completely was off. Aw wow I"m really sorry to hear that :/

  • @kerrsteena I'm sure if you find a job with an already established big wildlife center that already thrives on donations and has big supporters, ya I guess then you can expect a salary. I do this on my own because there was nobody where I lived. I took in over 300 animals from 46 different Texas Counties last year. It's because there is no funding or support for wildlife rehab (it's easier to get a hunting permit, you can kill them but you can't help them) why nobody wants to do it.

  • I work at Back To Nature Wildlife refuge in the Central Fl area and I found your video very precise and can see and relate to your passion. I am the new raccoon raiser and would love to glean any advice youo may have for me. I wish you continued success and know what a sacrifice this passion takes on a persons life!

  • @sreinmund386 Thank you so much! If you are on Facebook, look up Rainbow Wildlife Rescue. I'm posting every day and have lots of other rehabbers posting and exchanging information as well. :)

  • @MissDolittle Wow, God bless you. It's crazy, I hope in the future people will be more aware and help out :/

  • Thanks for this. My mom and I found a seagull wandering around with a broken wing. We saw an SPCA car and asked for help. He said he'd phone for help, but help wasn't coming fast enough and it was getting dark out. My mom and I went to the local vet who told us if we could catch it they'd take it in. They gave us a blanket. We caught him with a box and a blanket. He is now all bandaged up, wing set, and was sent off to a rehabilitator on the same day we brought him. He's doing fine so far. :)

  • people must watch this. must donate!

  • Awee what a heart-warming and informative video, thank you for sharing!
