The Government of India's ICDS (Integrated Child Development Scheme) has been making strides to improve maternal and child health in India with nutrition and education programs since 1975. It is arguably the largest government child feeding program in the world.

Local Anganwari centres distribute food rations, refer severely malnourished children to treatment centres, provide preschool education, give ante- and post- natal education and care, and also provide childhood immunizations. Under the program, the Dular strategy, which covers care for pregnant and lactating women, adolescent girls, and infants, is showing progress within the district of East Singhbhum in the state of Jharkhand. Increased health indicators are moving the area closer toward helping achieve the UN Millennium Development Goals.

This video was made for the UNICEF Knowledge Community on Children in India (KCCI) Program.
