84 descent with car/bike incident

Descending 84 on 6/2/11 when a car coming around a corner pulled into a driveway across the road, causing John & Karen to slide across the roadway, with John actually hitting the car (fortunately, almost at a stop at that point). It's noteworthy that this is the only bike/car collision that I can recall in over 35 years of doing this ride. Other than the time a car backed out of a driveway into me about 10 years ago, but that was getting to the ride, not actually on it. --Mike--

Everyone's OK, except for a bloodied knee and some damaged bike parts. Not aware of a lot of collisions there, but it certainly has the potential. There is a mirror at the lower end of the corner, but I suspect bikes don't show up as well as cars. Could be an argument for daytime bike lights to enhance visibility. --Mike--

I'm glad there was nothing too major. I don't think extra lights would have stopped that SMIDSY though, as Gaz says it looks like a bad turning but folk living/ visiting there should know ! You can be lit up like a Christmas tree and SMIDSY's still fail to see.

@ChainReactionBicycle I've ridden with day lights on (Exposure Race 2x P4 LEDs so super bright!, and an 80 lumen Redeye plugged in for the rear). I did it as an experiment for 2 years and honestly never saw any real change in driver behaviour.

That sucks! everyone ok, and damage wasn't too major?

Looks like a crappy turning there, there must be lots of collisions at that point as the driver looks like they are just turning blind!
