(Part 3 of 4) of the repair of 1938 RCA 810K. I meant to say the heat shrink tubing is good to I think 600 volts, not 600 degrees. It comes in all different sizes and colors. I used the 1/16 inch diameter for the capacitor and resistor leads. Another trick I did for the underchassis wiring was this. On some wires I removed the wire. Broke ALL of the crumbled insulation off, to leave a completely bare wire. then used heat shrink tubing to cover the wire. Keeping the same size wire can be important at times.
I also replaced all the wires that go to the speaker becasue they were totally shot. The field coil of the speaker has the B+ 360 Volts DC on it. Disclaimer: Please note that Antique tube radios use LETHAL internal voltages that can KILL you. Please read up on safety procedures before starting repair work. Please make sure all internal wiring is OK to avoid a fire hazard. Please take you antique radio to a qualified service person if you are unsure of what to do.
Capacitors and resistors can be bought at justradios.com.
Retro cloth covered wire can be bought at radiodaze.com, Capacitors and resistors, lightbulbs, etc. can be bought at mouser.com.
I bought the high quality electrolytics at tubesandmore.com

  • When you replace a output transformer you have to make shure that the primairy side of it corresponds with to anode impedance of the amplifier tubes, othewise you wil get bad sound

  • Hey, I love the website Nostalgia Air and started reading the Radio Tricians part and then verk nothing! What the hell can you help me out on this?

  • My hobby is also restoring old radios and your videos are very good. One thing to look for when you have a tuning eye that doesn't close is an off value 1 meg resistor usually located in the tuning eye tube socket. . RCA specified an oscilloscope indicating device when used with a sweep generator so as to make a response curve on the 'scope for IF alignment.

  • it was still in production as of last year. I bought them at tubesandmore dotcom
