August 16th, 1930. The first sound cartoon to be produced in color (using two-color Technicolor processing), "Fiddlesticks" was also the first production by Ub Iwerks through his newly formed Iwerks Studios for Pat Powers' Celebrity Productions, as well as the first Flip the Frog cartoon. Though a classic, "Fiddlesticks" would seem to be mostly a demonstration of Iwerks' artistic ingenuity and a publicity tool for his new independence from Disney, as all subsequent Flip the Frog cartoons demonstrated an updated artistic style (including the Flip character himself), contained more linear plots, and were all featured in black and white.

  • At least in this cartoon Flip looked like a frog. In the earlier b&w ones he looked more like a duck.

  • This particular cartoon was actually the first (and I believe only, though there might have been one more) Flip the Frog cartoon to be in color, as well as the first cartoon produced by Iwerks' solo studio in 1930. All of the black and white Flip cartoons were actually produced after this one. So presumably his change in character style came about as an evolution into a more pliable comedic character in the more adult-oriented humor basis that made up the later Flip cartoons.

  • scary.....

  • was this an american cartoon?

  • Flip the Frog is silly - he tap dances like a nigger. I've always laughed at tap dancing niggers because they remind me of the Uncle Toms that they are. It's a throwback to simplier times when niggers knew their place and if they got out of line you whipped them. Silly nigger - freedom is for white people.

  • How could they do this in 1930 :o

  • A scene of this cartoon was used in Eminem 's vid for 'The Real Slim Shady.'

The cartoon was seen on a TV in the psychatric ward in the video.

Didn't Eminem use that part in one of his music videos?
