The recent peace pact between Iraq's most influential Shia clerics - Muqtada al-Sadr and Abdul Aziz al-Hakim - is seen by political observers as a significant shift towards stabilising Iraq's warring Shia factions. Inside Iraq asks if the pact will provide the anchor for political stability in Iraq and if the ceasefire declared last August will remain or if violence will flare up again after the 6 months dateline is up in February.

  • amen! i'm scottish and from what I can see looking at thesituation, amercans seem to forget everything negative and believe what they're told by the media. Their excuse is "we fight for freedom"... nobody really tells me who was taking their freedom away! freedom from what?! Terrorism? USA are the biggest terrorists

  • This man wouldn't have any power if Iraq was not Illegally invaded. Let's face facts..Saddam was only in power due to American funding and CIA manipulation so Iran could be attacked by Iraq. USA also funded Iran at the same time(IRAN-CONTRA). Roll back a little more..operation ajax 1953(US coup in Iran to seize oil). I suggest any racist Americans learn history before the spout their abuse.

  • i don't know.....sometimes I thank the United States as a Shi'a....shiites were being massacred in both Afghanistan and Iraq before the Americans came......but I don't justify their occupation. there are lots of ahlusunna who aren't muslims and they are worse than the Americans

  • Islam has no central authority, which is the problem. That means any self-appointed religious figure can say he is the head of the true islam.

Look at protestantism. No central authority, and thus it too is a splintered religion full of extremism.

Catholicism has a strong central authority, thus hands down edicts for all catholics to follow. This keeps it locked down, preventing most catholics from engaging in extremism....except maybe for the damn irish and Mel Gibson.

  • Abdul-Aziz al-Hakim another dead shiite

    who gives a damn

  • yea saddam got rid of sharia but when he was infront of the iraqi judges what was he branding as his defense?

saddam knows what he did was wrong and realized it

  • Muqtada is a mother fuker
